API17F qualification of Gateway and Valve packs for SWOCS
Discover how Innova delivered a fully API 17F-qualified SWOCS valve pack and gateway by conquering extreme deepwater and environmental challenges.
Category: Case studies
Innova recently completed a comprehensive qualification program for a customer-specific valve pack and gateway, designed for a subsea workover control system (SWOCS). The project was carried out in accordance with the stringent requirements of the API 17F standard, and was based on Innova’s proprietary electronics platform.
The qualification process involved several critical stages:
- Q1 Testing: Initial testing of the electronic boards included extreme shock, vibration, and temperature conditions to validate durability and performance.
- Q2 Testing: The boards were then integrated into their respective electronic racks, and subjected to a second round of testing with modified criteria to simulate real-world operational environments.
- EMC Testing: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing was conducted in multiple phases. To meet the demanding specifications, several custom filter boards were developed to ensure robust protection against electromagnetic interference.
- Hydrostatic Testing: Final validation was performed in Innova’s own hyperbaric test chamber, simulating deepwater pressure conditions to confirm the integrity of the units.
This project presented a number of technical challenges, but through close collaboration and engineering expertise, the qualification was successfully completed. The outcome has led to the delivery of multiple units to the customer, reinforcing Innova’s capability in delivering high-performance subsea control solutions.
