ROV BackPack System for Isolated Tooling Operations
A fully integrated ROV Back Pack solution that safely isolates "dirty" tooling hydraulics, expanding subsea intervention capabilities without risking contamination to the primary system.
Category: Case studies
Overview
Innova delivered a complete ROV BackPack solution to a major EPC contractor, enabling safe and flexible operation of external subsea tooling using isolated hydraulic systems.
Challenge
The key challenge was providing sufficient power and control for external tooling while preventing contamination of the ROV’s primary hydraulic system. This required a compact, fully integrated solution that could operate independently without compromising ROV performance.
Solution
Innova developed a self-contained backpack system based on its proven Valve Pack 6ch NG6 platform, featuring:
- Dedicated hydraulic system with reservoir, filtration, and motor/pump assembly
- Isolated fluid circuits supporting “dirty” hydraulics and alternative fluids
- Ethernet and serial control via integrated PIO36 control board
- Lightweight DNV 2.7-3 aluminium frame with integrated buoyancy
A complete topside package, including HMI, control panel, and test unit, ensured efficient integration and operation.
Result
A compact and robust add-on system that increases ROV flexibility, protects core hydraulics, and enables safe, efficient subsea intervention with external tooling.
Key Facts
- Environment: Subsea / ROV operations
- System Type: ROV BackPack (isolated hydraulic system)
- Control Interface: Ethernet / Serial (PIO36)
- Compliance: DNV 2.7-3
